Abstract

An experiment was conducted with the aim of assessing the performance, height, and nutritional value of five cultivars of perennial grasses (Dactylis glomerata Savvy, Festuca arundinacea Quantum II, Festuca arundinacea Festival, Festulolium Mahulena, and Phalaris Confederate) in two altitudinal zones (AZ) in the province of Santa Cruz, Cajamarca. Throughout the study, the percentage of purity, germination power, and the weight of 1 000 seeds were analyzed. Nine plots of 6 m2 (3 m x 2 m) per AZ were randomly designated, and the five cultivars were planted in them using a Completely Randomized Block Design (CRBD). Although no significant differences in yield (P>0.05) were observed among the cultivars, it was highlighted that, by altitudinal zone, the highest yield (P<0.05) in dry matter per cut and accumulated (DM) corresponded to AZ I, with 1 874.43 kg DM ha-1 and 9 372.20 kg DM ha-1 year-1 , respectively. Elevated concentrations of ashes (minerals) were observed only by altitudinal zone, being more pronounced in AZ I. Considering that the assessment spanned a full year, the values obtained in these cultivars generate favorable expectations for producers, encouraging improvements in milk production.
