Analysis and design of foundation slabs with piles
Keywords:
combined foundations, challenging soils, foundation slabs, structural piles, tall buildingsAbstract
In the current context, the construction of tall buildings has become an imperative necessity driven, firstly, by the global population growth and the consequent demand for habitable spaces in expanding cities. Secondly, scientific and technical advancements, leading to the discovery of new materials, the implementation of specialized machinery, and innovation in construction processes, have significantly influenced the ability to erect taller structures. Additionally, factors such as competition among nations to lead in the construction of impressive buildings, driven by both fashion and national pride, also contribute to this trend. This research study focuses on the detailed analysis and practical application of foundations that combine slabs and piles in the construction of large-scale buildings, bridges, industrial, and marine structures, among others. Emblematic cases are examined, such as the Burj Khalifa Tower, which, situated on challenging soil, employs this combination to manage settlements and optimize economic considerations. The references provide additional and detailed information about various buildings that employ this foundation technique.
