This research, of a descriptive nature and a non-experimental retrospective design, aimed to examine the evolution of the prevalence of contraceptive methods (CM) usage among women of childbearing age (WCA) in the Cajamarca district during the period 2015-2021. The methodology employed included a documentary review as a technique and a data registration form as an instrument. The population of interest consisted of women of childbearing age in the Cajamarca district, as reported by the Regional Health Directorate of Cajamarca. The results revealed that the prevalence of CM usage among women in this district was less than 50% in 2016 and 2021 but exceeded 60% in 2015 and 2019, reaching its peak in 2018 with 70.1% of WCA using some contraceptive method. Throughout the study period (2015-2021), the most commonly used methods belonged to the effective group, with the quarterly injectable being the most preferred, averaging 30.6% usage, followed by the monthly injectable with an average usage of 13.6%. On the other hand, the use of natural contraceptive methods was minimal, being less than 1%. In conclusion, an irregular evolution in the prevalence of CM usage was observed during the first half of the study period, with a decline between 2015 and 2016 of 16.8 percentage points, followed by a steady increase in 2017 that peaked in 2018, surpassing 70%. In the second half of the study period, there was a progressive reduction between 2019 and 2021, approximately 22.3 percentage points.
