This study was conducted in the buffer zone of the Municipal Conservation Area Bosque de Huamantanga, in the populated center of La Cascarilla, district and province of Jaén, Cajamarca region, at an altitude of 2 000 m above sea level. The primary objective was to assess the establishment, survival, height growth, and diameter of Cinchona officinalis seedlings from the nursery, using two planting methods: in areas without forest cover (full sun) and in forested areas (understory), with a planting density of 3 x 3 m. The results revealed a high mortality rate in the full sun area (74%), while in the understory planting, this percentage decreased to 54%. Although the increase in height was slightly higher in the full sun planting (4.00 cm) compared to the understory planting (3.09 cm), the behavior in diameter growth was similar, recording 1.05 for full sun planting and 1.04 for understory planting.
