Abstract

The objective of this research work was to determine the frequency of Giardia spp. in children and dogs from 3 villages in the district of Sorochuco, province of Celendín, Cajamarca Region, using the Faust concentration and flotation technique. For the study, 30 stool samples from children aged 3 to 12 years, and 30 stool samples from dogs of different ages and both sexes, were taken from each of the Villages. The analysis of fecal samples was carried out in the Immunology and Research Laboratory of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the National University of Cajamarca (UNC). Giardia spp.  The frequency of Giardia spp. in children, for La Chorrera village it was 46.7 ± 18 %, in Cruzpampa it was 36.7 ± 17 %, and in Chugurmayo it was 40 ± 18 %. The Giardia spp frequency in dogs was 38.1 ± 20 %, in the La Chorrera village, 23.3 ± 15 % in Cruzpampa, and 20.7 ± 14.7 % in Chugurmayo. It is concluded that Giardia spp. in Cajamarca represents a public health problem for the population, especially for children who are the most vulnerable.
